Effect of Humic Acid on Yield and Quality of Marigold  (Calendula officinalis L.)Abstract

To study the effect of humic acid on yield and yield components of marigold, a complete randomized experiment with five levels of humic acid treatments (0, 500, 1000, 2000, 4000 mg/l) with three replications and 15 experimental plots was carried out. Analysis of variance showed that the effect of humic acid treatments on number of leaves and flowers, dry weight and plant height was significantly at the one percent probability level. Mean comparisons revealed that treatment with 2000 mg/l humic acid had the most dry weight, plant height, leaves and flowers number.

Humic acid effects on plant height were best for 2000 mg/l (yielding 27,45 cm, compared to the control with 18,55 cm).
The humic acid effect on the dry weight (applying 2000 mg/l) yielded 215.7 gram, compared to the control with 141.26 gram. The positive effect of humic acid improving the ability to absorb nutrients may be due to its effect on the dry plant biomass, which was confirmed as well.

In conclusion, the effect of humic acid on yield and yield components of marigold was positive.

General Benefits of HUMINTECH Products

Quantitative and qualitative yield increases

Regular application of high quality humic acids accumulates their effects in soils and continuously enhance the quantitative and qualitative yields. The dry matter of the plants is increased, which also positively affects the taste of fruits and vegetables. In addition, the quality of the fruits and their shelf life is extended. Our results from practice in different countries show the yield increase in different cultures.

Reduction of water demand

The accumulation of organic matter by humic acids binds the seeping water especially in sandy soils. Thereby the water demand can be reduced by up to 50 percent depending on the soil type. Thus, precious water is saved in arid areas.

Increase of the nutrients' efficiency

The addition of humic acids increase the fertilizer efficiency and the nutrient uptake by roots. Thus they can decrease the need of fertilizers up to 30 percent and reduce the production costs substantially. The reduction of fertilizer saves the environment at the same time.

Profitability

The profit from increased yields, improved fruit and vegetable qualities, and saved fertilizer costs definitely exceeds the application costs of HUMINTECH products. You can benefit economically and ecologically from the application of humic acid based products in the long term. They are a guarantee for successful yields in any kind of soil, at any place and with any cultivation method.
