Dutch science meets German know how

On Friday, April 21rst 2017, Prof. Rob N.J. Comans and Mr. Alexander Laarman from the Netherlands have paid a visit to Humintech GmbH in Grevenbroich, Germany. Prof. Comans is an expert for soil chemistry and chemical soil quality with renowned Dutch Wageningen University; Mr. Laarman is Business Development Manager with Vitens, Co., the Netherlands’ largest drinking water company. Furthermore, Vitens is a science and business partner of Humintech GmbH when it comes to extracting humic substances from water.

Prof. Comans work focusses on the analysis and characterization of humic substances. His visit aimed at exploring potential joint efforts in researching and developing further uses of humic substances. This was discussed with Humintech’s CEO Müfit Tarhan, Technical and Sales Manager Dr. Yasser Dergham as well as Berthold Stern and Dr. Nadine Braun of the company’ R&D department. Not only do the Netherlands and Germany share a border, but also worthwhile ideas and innovational strength, as the partnership between Vitens and Humintech already displays today. A further cooperation with Prof. Comans and his team would be of great benefit for both sides.

Prof. Coman took the opportunity of being in Grevenbroich to have a look at brown coal mining district Garzweiler, located next to Humintech’s company grounds. Brown coal, or lignite, from Garzweiler is a primary high quality source of humic substances. Garzweiler’s operator RWE Power AG allowed for a two hour guided tour through the strip mine for the whole group.
